Dr Jenner's House on BBC2 Antiques Road Trip

Posted at 11:00 on 08/02/2013

The production team and film crew visited Dr Jenner's House last summer to learn more about Jenner and to film footage for the piece.  Antiques expert and Presenter Catherine Southon met Helen Jeffrey, our Education & Audience Engagement Manager to learn more about Jenner and his pioneering vaccine research.

Catherine was fascinated by Jenner's story and equally enthused to visit Dr Jenner's House, the place where Jenner made history. The episode shows Catherine and Helen discussing the gruesome reality of smallpox - one of the biggest killers in the 1800s, before investigating some of the artefacts in our collection.  The team also filmed the Temple of Vaccinia where Jenner saved thousands of lives by providing free vaccinations.

We are very proud to have showcased Jenner's remarkable story on BBC2. Those who missed the episode can watch again on BBC iplayer.  Series 6 episode 25.
